Arlene V. Cannoy was born on September 25th, 1918 in Marathon, Iowa to Lee and Cora Burwell. She was the youngest of seven children.

She moved to Carol, Iowa at age six and then to Rembrandt for her freshman year. She graduated from Rembrandt High Schoool as valedictorian of her class in 1937.

She married her high school sweetheart, Marlin Cannoy, on October 11th, 1940. They remained in Iowa for one year while Marlin taught school, and then moved to southern California where Marlin began a long career with Owens Illinois Glass Company.

Their daughter Marcia was born on November 11th, 1942. Arlene's mother came to help out while she went to work at Alcoa and Marlin was in the Navy.

Their son Greg was born on July 4th, 1947, and soon afterward they purchased their first home in South Gate, California.

Over the years they relocated to Portland, Oregon, then back to Los Angeles, then to San Mateo, and once again back to Portland where they retired. After Marlin's death in 2000, she lived at Courtyard Fountains Retirement Community for twelve years.

She was an avid bridge player and golfer, and was also a gifted seamstress. She loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Arlene is survived by her daughter Marcia and husband Phil, son Greg and wife Barbara, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
