Johnson, the former Ruby W.
Burwell, was born March 15, 1904, on
a farm near Sibley and moved to
Marathon with her family when she
was a young girl. She attended
Marathon School and graduated in
1922. She attended Buena Vista College,
Storm Lake, and Iowa State
Teacher's College, Cedar Falls
where she received her teachers certificate.
She married Reen Johnson
on June 1, 1928, in Spencer. They
made their home in Highview where
she taught for five years. She then
taught at Sioux Rapids until moving
into Rembrandt where she taught
from 1934 until retiring in 1969. She
entered Sioux Care Center on Jan.
13, 1987. She was a member of
United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her
parents, one sister — Myrtle
Zender; one brother — Chester
Burwell and three brothers-in-law.
