Memorial services for Gay Johnson, 76, of Lubbock and formerly of Levelland will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Levelland, with Rev. Jesse Hodge, pastor, First Christian Church, officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home of Levelland. She passed from this life on Thursday, November 15, 2012 in Lubbock. Gay was born on August 1, 1936 in Odessa, Texas to Homer and Ruth (Staggs) Johnson. The family moved to Levelland in 1938. She attended and graduated from Levelland School in 1954. She then attended Texas Technological College, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. Gay worked for Midland Phillips '66 for a short time, and returned to Levelland in 1960 to join the family business, Homer Johnson Oil Company. She worked there until she retired in 2003. Throughout her life, she was an avid Red Raider fan, especially of the Lady Raiders basketball team, where she served as President of the Double T Connection, the Lady Raiders Booster Club, from 1991-1993. Survivors include her life-long companion, Pat Stansell of Lubbock; her brother, Jimmie Johnson and wife, Linda of Levelland; her nieces, Jamie Noesen and husband, Glen of Plano, and Brittany Weaver and husband, Matt of Sweetwater; her great-nieces, Kara Blakemore, and Mabry, Marly and Maryn Weaver; and her great-nephew, Stefan Noesen.
