Lilian Pinkston married James Allen Gathings on 4 September 1921 at Elbert, Texas. He preceded her in death.

Services for Lillian Gathings, 84, were held at Newcastle First Baptist Church. She moved to Young County with her parents in 1910 from Comanche County, Texas. She was a member of the Newcastle Baptist Church.

Survived by two sons - James A. Gathings, Jr. and William Richard Gathings; four daughters - Lola Marie Washburn, Jo Ann Speck, Joyce Odom, LaWanda Baugaus; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters - Ida Mae Pinkerton, Pearlene Oliphant, Lorene Eustace.

She was preceded in death by one daughter - Dorothy Baker.

We had quite a surprise party to celebrate the 55th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gathings in their home. Helping them celebrate were Mrs. Jack Washburn of Eliasville, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Baker, Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Baugus, Mrs. Jo Ann Speck, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Odom, Rev. and Mrs. James E. Baker, Greg Speck, Steve Odom, Glen and Grant Speck, Bryant Alan Baugus, Jr., Mark and Douglas Baugus, Lydia, Denise and Richard Gathings, great-grandchildren - Jennifer and Andy Baker, Rev. and Mrs. Glen Granger of Iredell, J.O. Gathings, Mrs. Pearlene Olipant. - See Gathings file.

A reunion of the families of Richard Caldwell Gathings and his sons, Henry, Coy, Jim, and Will, all deceased, held a reunion at Fireman's Park in Graham. More than 100 family members attended. Special recognition was given to Lillian Gathings of Newcastle, widow of Jim Gathings and Pearlene Gathings Oliphant of Graham, widow of Will Gathings, as the oldest family members.
