EMDEN -- Gilferd L. Baker, 82, of 112 Pearl St. died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Bartmann Health Care Center in rural Atlanta.

Born Feb. 19, 1917, in rural Lincoln to George W. and Nora Betzelberger Baker, he married Alice Anderson on June 12, 1949, in Boynton Township. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Melvin (Nancy) of Emden , John (Deanna) of Tremont and Alan (Sharon) of Lakewood, Colo; one daughter, Marilyn (James) Dwyer of Aiken, S.C.; one brother, George of San Jose; and nine grandchildren.

He was an electrician, owning and operating Baker Electric for over 50 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he had served as vice chairman of the administrative council. He was a past member of the Emden Volunteer Fire Department.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at his church. The Revs. Doug Rettig and Henry Cox will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery . Davis Mortuary in Hopedale is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church of to Hospice Care of Illinois, 720 N. Bond, Springfield, IL 62701-94.
