Her obituary in the 1884 Morganton Herald:

"Miss Cecilia Erwin died at Maplewood, the residence of her nephew, Mr. Hamilton Erwin, on Wednesday night, May the 2nd, in the eighty-seventh year of her age. Death resulted from a fall sustained several weeks ago, in which her thigh was broken. Notwithstanding her advanced age, Miss Cecilia, up to the time of the accident, was in excellent health, and as her physician remarked, would in all probability have lived ten years longer. The funeral services were held in the parlor of the old "Belvidere" mansion on John's river, the home of Miss Erwin's father. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Rose, Jr., and there was a very large attendance at the funeral. The remains were interred at the family burial place near Belvidere in the grave of Mr. Hamilton Erwin , Sr., who was a twin brother of the deceased.
Miss Cecilia M. Erwin was the last of the sixteen children of Col. William W. Erwin of Belvidere, who married Maria Sharpe, of Iredell, and she possessed all those sterling qualities which have made Col. Erwin's descendants such a power in Western North Carolina.
