Clato was born December 17, 1914 in Blackhawk County, Iowa to Bert and Alice (Dennison) Long.
He married Mildred Kautman and together they raised seven children.
Clato had been retired from the Milwaukee Railroad head-quartered at Marquette. He also worked for Wilson Packing Plant and Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids and the Piggly Wiggly Store.
He was known as the Santa Claus helper during the holidays.
Clato is survived by his wife; four sons, Richard, Lawrence, William and Clato Long; two daughters, Shirley (Terry) Clements and Mary Long; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a brother, Corles Long.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Long; three sisters and four brothers.
