Leona I. Scott (96 yrs.) of Harlingen passed peacefully at her residence on August 20, 2014.

She was born in Hibbing, MN, on October 17, 1917, to Elmer & Irene Chase. Leona was raised & educated in Minneapolis, MN.

Leona was married in 1938 to Delmont H. Scott, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1998. Also preceding her are two sisters, Ardelle Newberger of Harlingen and Dorothy Boyd of El Paso, step-son & daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jan Scott of Park Rapids, MN, and grandson, Trevor Jones of Bismarck, MO.

Leona is survived by her daughter Linda (Dick) Jones of Bismarck, MO; grandchildren Chad (Aubrey) Scott, Alicia Jones, and Baleen (Murray) Roberts of MN; Brian (Rachel) Jones and Corey (Brandy) Jones of Bismarck, MO; and great grandchildren, Signe' Rose Scott, Kayla Mack, Amy Mack, Brianna DeClue, Thomas Jones, Briley Jones, Jathan Thilking, and Tayler Jones. She also leaves behind many beloved friends in her Sunshine community, church community, and volunteer community.

Leona & Del began their Texas life as Winter Texans in 1978. They established residency in Sunshine Country Club Estates in 1984. Leona was active in her Sunshine Community. She enjoyed square dancing, golf, quilting, bridge, water aerobics, Bible study, Women's Club, majhong, and other card games. Leona completed CPA (Citizen's Police Academy) training and was an active member in the Sunshine Neighborhood Watch program.

In the Harlingen community, Leona was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Club. She was also a volunteer for the Methodist Second Chance Thrift Store. Leona volunteered at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen for 27 years, where she served in an officer capacity several times. As a volunteer, Leona's favorite positions were Pastoral Services and the South Tower gift shop. Leona served as a HOST tutor for 10 years at the Long Elementary School in Harlingen.

Private entombment services will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery, Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio.
