ELLIOTT 12th child of Francis and Onner (Prince) Loud

Note: The name ELLIOTT is found various ways, such as: ELIOT, ELLIOT, and ELLET.

Elliott Loud was born and raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts. His birth record in Weymouth shows his name spelled as Elliot Loud and his family tomb in the North Burial Ground in Weymouth has his name engraved as Ellet Loud. All family records found by the author and most all published histories and early diaries have his name spelled as Elliott Loud. His son's birth record in Weymouth is spelled "Elliot" Loud. Apparently in the 1700's the name Elliott was spelled with one "t". Because of the confusion and various spellings of the name, the author used just the latter spelling "Elliott" throughout this chapter.

Elliott Loud was educated in Weymouth and for several years was on the school committee of North Weymouth, MA. He was in the Revolutionary War, enlisting as a Private in Capt. Samuel Ward's Co., and in Col. Solomon Lovel's Regt., in which he assembled and marched on March 4, 1776, at the time of taking Dorchester Heights. He was with the Regt, ten days subsequent to March 10, 1776, roll sworn to in Suffolk County, MA. He later became a Captain of Militia and since has been referred to as Captain Ellet Loud or Elliott Loud.

On May 8, 1777, he was appointed administrator of his parent's estate. He lived all of his life and died in his native town of Weymouth, MA. Like all his brothers and his father, Elliott was a Housewright. Elliott Loud made his will Feb. 6, 1813, mentioning his three sons, his pew in the North Meeting House, his wife, Sarah, and his four daughters. The author's research shows there are no descendants of Elliott with the name Loud living after 1967. It is believed that there is only one descendant of Elliott Loud living in 1980 who was born with the Loud name. She is Mary (Loud) Thorne who lives in San Diego, CA. The author made a personal visit to Mary in San Diego in 1975. She said as far as she knows, she is the only descendant of Elliott Loud living that had the Loud name. The author, by research records, agrees.

Elliott Loud's wife, Sarah Pratt, was born in Weymouth, MA., daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Dyer) Pratt. She and Elliott died in Weymouth and are buried in the family tomb in the Old North Burial Grounds of North Weymouth, MA.
