Patrick J. McManus, 82, of Edmonton, pioneer of Southern Alberta, died Wednesday. Mr. McManus was born at Arnprior, Ontario. He joined the Ottawa and later the Calgary city police force. While in Calgary he opened the first wholesale liquor store in the city and owned the King Edward and Riverside hotels. Later he farmed in the Morrin district. He retired to Edmonton in 1938. He was a member of the Cattle Breeders' Association and imported registered cattle and hogs. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 40 years and was presented with an honorary life membership. Mr. McManus leaves his wife; three sons, Ronald, Dennis and Patrick; six daughters, Delores, Mrs. R. A. Strip, Mrs. L. (Wardell) Hunt, Mrs. F. W. Wood, Mrs. L. Purchasin, all of Edmonton; and Mrs. R. James of Salem, Oregon.
