Edith Angle Higgins, 82, passed away Aug. 13, 2014, at Haven of Safford nursing home. Edith was born Jan. 28, 1932, to Andrew and Zereta Angle in Cactus (Lebanon), Ariz. Edith grew up in a large and happy family, with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Education was important to her father, and it was his goal to see that his children had the opportunity to get a college education. With this in mind, Edith attended New Mexico Western College in Silver City for a time. She followed the family to Mesa when they moved and enrolled in Arizona State University. Edith graduated with a teaching degree and taught school in Bagdad and Safford.
Edith married Jay Carl Higgins Sr. on Jan. 28, 1960. Together they raised three children: Jay Jr., Carla Sue and Nancy. When Jay started kindergarten, Edith would meet him and walk him home. She continued this love of walking; you could often see her walking as the weather permitted.
Edith was a loving and kind person who liked to help others.
Edith is survived by her son, Jay C. Higgins Jr. (Sarah, deceased); daughters Carla LeBaron, Nancy Williams (Arlo); sisters Joy Layton, Velma Millett, Carol Picha and Betty Larson; brothers Eldon Angle and Marlin Angle; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, husband Jay Sr. and one grandchild, Karen Z. Williams.
The posterity of Edith and Jay include three children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 22, at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Central Chapel, 2597 N. Church Ave., with a viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the Thatcher Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
