Jay Carl Higgins, Sr. was born February 12, 1930 in Safford, Arizona at the Safford Inn Hospital.

Throughout his lifetime, Jay was employed with Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation and later opened his own business, Higgin's T.V. Sales and Service. He was a caring soul who loved his family. Jay will be dearly missed by all whom he befriended.

Jay Higgins, Sr., age 80, of Safford, passed away Saturday afternoon at the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Jay is survived by Edith, his eternal companion; daughters, Nancy Williams and Carla LaBaron, son, Jay,Jr. and thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jay will be conducted Saturday, September 11th, at 2 p.m., at the Safford 20th Street L.D.S. Chapel by Bishop Ed Taylor of the Safford Sixth Ward. Concluding services with military honors conferred by the Gila Valley Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the Thatcher Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home and Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., at the Safford 20th Street L.D.S. Chapel Relief Society Room.
