Lloyd Lorraine Ball was born on June 29, 1904, at Topeka Kans., the son of Mr. & Mrs. E.C. Ball, now of Huntington Park, Calif.

He was raised and educated at White City, Kansas, and graduated there from high school in 1921.

He was later an electrician on the Rock Island Railroad at Herington, and went west in 1924. He spent two years as first class seaman on the U.S.S. Harvard on the coast line between San Francisco and San Diego, California, then six years as operating engineer at the California Pure Carbonic and Dry Ice Plant.

He was inducted into the army August 10, 1942 and transferred to the Air Corps. In six months he had finished his training and received his wings and rating as Staff Sergeant.

He was a gunner on a Flying Fortress Bomber B-17 when the plane crashed on February 11th in the Blue Mountains, 17 miles east of Walla Walla, Washington.

He, with nine others, lost their lives on a routine flight. Even though his death was accidental, his contribution was both a great and honorable one--a contribution to free America.

His generous ways and sunny smile will be missed by all. He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Ball, brother Glendon; and sister, Dorothy, all of Huntington Park, Calif., brother Earl, of Kansas City, Mo., brother, Ansel, of Los Angeles, Calif., and sister, Mabelle Gish, of Dodge City, Kansas, and many relatives and hosts of friends.
