Jerry Lee Puffer was born August 22, 1935, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Phil Puffer and Norma Jean (Mansmith) Puffer. He grew up in Corwith where he attended country school and later graduated from the Corwith High School in 1953. After his schooling Jerry worked at John Deere and also the DX gas station in Corwith.

On August 15, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage to Venice Ann Varney in Corwith, Iowa. They lived in Corwith for a short time after their marriage before moving to Algona. Jerry worked a short time as a mechanic before going to work at Algona Municipal Utilities from 1956 until retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed being with his family, playing golf, tennis and guitar, as well as canoeing, woodworking and computers. Jerry also enjoyed driving his golf cart, with license plate #1, around town and he was an avid supporter of the Water's Edge Nature Center at Smith Lake. He was an active member of the Grace Church.

Jerry died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona. He was 78.

Jerry is survived by his children, Rhonda and Garth Mathews of Litchfield Park, AZ; Rock and Kathy Puffer of Shepherd, MI; Jim and Aida Puffer of Britt; grandchildren, Bethany Caswell, Faith (Christie) Woods, Coty Jo Puffer, Justin Puffer, Marshall, Clayton and Wayne Lentsch; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy and Kenneth Williams of Apple Valley, MN; a brother, Joel Puffer of Shakopee, MN and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Venice Puffer on December 21, 2003; son, Jeff Puffer on August 14, 2004; a daughter, Patty Anderson on June 30, 2011; and a granddaughter, Kacey Marie Puffer on January 23, 2007.

Jerry lived 78 years, 11 months and 28 days.
