John "Jay" Rhodes, 88, went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Saturday, November 13, 2021. We know he is rejoicing with Jesus and he will be able to talk again after a stroke took his speech from him the last few years.

Jay was born on March 3, 1933, in Terrell, Texas. He grew up in Terrell, Mabank, and Scurry where he met his high school sweetheart Emily Jane Mapp. They married in September of 1952 and lived in Terrell for many years, later making their home in Ennis. He was a truck driver for Ennis Business Forms in the 80's, then worked for Doherty Brothers Wreckers in the 90's. He later retired from Cody Company. Jay was a longtime member of Anthony Drive Baptist Church of Ennis.

He loved car shows fast cars, old model A's and any parade close by! He always couldn't wait to put lights on his model A or his old '55 model car for the Christmas parade.

He is survived by one son, John Rhodes and his wife, Delores; three daughters: Wanda Rhodes Jackson, Patricia Rhodes Morris and her husband, Kelly Morris and Carma Rhodes Thomas and her husband, Randy; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. Also, one special great-grandchild on the way that he was very excited about.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Emily Jane Rhodes, his parents, Stephen "Bud" and Linnie Rhodes, sister, Jane O'Guin Tedder, and grandsons, Ronald G. Yates, Jett Toland and granddaughters, Tiffany and Tracy Pool.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 2 p.m. in Myrtle Cemetery with Rev. Matt Walker officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
