Francis Marion (Frank) McNeal, 47 years old and the father of ten children, died at 6:15 o'clock last Friday morning at his home in Traer. Mr. McNeal was ill less than a week with blood poisoning and kidney disease, the trouble believed to have originated from an infection of the teeth. Over-exertion during the hot weather is thought to have been a contributing cause. His condition was not considered critical, however, until the morning his death, when a blood clot on the heart proved fatal.
Mr. McNeal was a resident of Traer most of his life. He was born a t Beaman, in Grundy county, on Sept. 23, 1883, and moved here with parents at the age of 5. He was employed for many years as a day laborer and on farms and was known as an industrious man who had the interests of his family at heart. He worked for nearly a year for John Mowery, local ice dealer, before entering the employ of Burns & Walters when the latter firm opened a new lumber yard here about two years ago. He was working as a truck driver at the lumber yard at the time of his death.
Mr. McNeal was married to Inez Patton, of Traer, on Mar. 9, 1910. He is survived by his wife and ten children, Two of the latter by a previous marriage. The children are Mrs. Marjorie Bence, of Ames, Ia.; Vernon McNeal, also of Ames; Mrs. Lucille Diggs, of Des Moines; and Jessie, Pearl, Gloria, Armilda, Clifford. Wilbur and Duane, both of this community. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Durkin of Iowa City; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Grant, of Pasadena, Cal.; and a brother, Norvel McNeal, of Minneapolis, Minn.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the local M. E. church, with the Rev. Alvin H. Boettcher, Traer Congregational pastor, officiating. Music at the service was furnished by the Traer men's quartet. Pallbearers were Will Burns, Clarence Harrison, Wesley Drinovsky, Dick Paul, Louis Drinovsky and Floyd Smith.
