Douglas M. Shields, 72, of Pekin, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born March 31, 1942 in Mt. Vernon to Frank Howard and Helen Doris (Cooper) Shields, he married Margaret Ann Stroud on September 16, 1967 in Sunnyland. She died December 11, 2013 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Owen Shields and Larry Glen Shields and one sister, Martha Lou Smith.
Surviving are two sons, Michael D. Shields and Duane A. Shields, both of Pekin; one brother, Charles Shields of Peoria and one sister, Susan Lynn (Les) Guaitz of Spring Bay.
He had served with the United States Marine Corps.
He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked as a security guard for 6 years with Wackenhut.
His graveside service will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Marine Corps. and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
