Arnaudville - Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, for Theresa Simon Gordon, 81, who passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Arnaudville.

Interment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.

Fr. Keenan Brown, Pastor of St. John Francis Regis Church, will officiate at the funeral Mass, assisted by Deacon Jim Davis. Scriptures will be read by Tara Gordon, Kylar Wiltz, Chad Broussard. Gifts will be presented to the Altar by her daughters.

Theresa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, revered as the "Big Chief” and affectionately known as “Mamee” to her family and friends. She was employed by the Saint Martin Parish School Board for 26 years. She was a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and St. Anne Altar Society and also served as a Catechism teacher for many years.

In addition to praying the rosary, Theresa loved crocheting, planting flowers in her yard, reading the newspaper, and going to the casino. As well as being a wonderful cook, she also enjoyed baking; in fact, her coconut cake was the "absolute best"". Her family gathered together for lunch at her home every Sunday and all holidays - she demanded that everyone eat.

As a reminder to her loved ones that life and relationships were far too important to submit to adversity, she frequently reinforced three simple words of wisdom that would become the conduit for maintaining such a close-knit family: “Keep the Peace.” From her love of life and laughter to her incredible hospitality to all who visited her home, Theresa will leave a fond and lasting impression on everyone who she has crossed paths with throughout her journey of life. Tender memories of this amazing woman will be treasured by many for years to come.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Clay Gordon, Sr., of Arnaudville; five daughters, Betty Gordon, of Tampa, FL, Jo Ann Chevalier and husband, Earl, of New Orleans, Lee Elda Gordon, of Lafayette, Sandra Jolivette, of Arnaudville, and Claudette Calais and husband, Lawrence, of Arnaudville; four sons, Henry C. Gordon, Jr., and wife, Leona, of Houston, TX, Russell Gordon and wife, Verler, of Lafayette, Charles Gordon and wife, Vernette, of Henderson, and Ronald Gordon and wife, Madeline, of Arnaudville; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ella Dartez Simon; and a son-in-law, Larry Jolivette.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday.
