Vivian Nalani Spencer, 93, of Honolulu, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Pauoa, Honolulu, Hawaii. Vivian attended Kawananakoa grade school and graduated from McKinley High School Class of 1938. That year, McKinley High School won State titles in basketball, football and baseball.
After high school, Vivian worked as a Head Usherette and played on the Women's Softball Team for the once famous Waikiki Theater located on Kalakaua and Seaside Avenues. She played the positions of shortstop and 3rd base. Waikiki Theater at one time welcomed world renowned dignitaries and movie stars. Known for her prowess as an athlete, she had a competitive nature and spirit about her in every sport she participated. Vivian later worked as a Front Desk Clerk at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, retiring as Senior Clerk after 29 years. She will be remembered by family, friends and loved ones as a hard-working, extraordinary individual, full of life, love, and kindness. We miss you Mommy.
