Born September 17, 1917 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late William Alexander Hughes and Mae (Brown) Hughes and widow of Edwin Schroder "Ed" Lake.
Mrs. Lake, a retired public school teacher at D. R. Hill Middle School with 32 years in public education, was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Circle.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Jonathan Dean Lake of Spartanburg, SC and Julia Renee Smith of Taylors, SC; great grandchildren, Jonathan Lake II, Brittany Lake, Adam Lake, Justin Sims, Christopher Smith, and Layla Rickard; great-great grandchildren, Rowan Victoria Lake and Hayden Sims.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Julia (Lake) Carter and granddaughter, Caroline Lake.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 18, 2014, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Rev. Emily Edenfield.
Visitation followed the service at graveside.
Memorials could be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Parish Life Center, 415 South Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
