Charles Ray Caffey stepped into eternity on a Tuesday evening in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas, after a lengthy fight with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, the oldest of four children. Charles was raised in the Thorndale area and was a 1963 graduate of Thorndale High School. He graduated from Southwest Texas College in San Marcos where he played football and track. Charles was inducted into the “T Association” Hall of Honor in 2004. On January 22, 1966 he married Neva in Lake Jackson, Texas. After their marriage, he worked as a teacher and coach. Charles, Neva, and their two sons moved to Rockdale in 1976 where he was self-employed in real estate and construction. Charles loved hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds. He was an amateur archaeologist / paleontologist, a scout, tracker, cook, mechanic, farmer, rancher, and pilot.
