Lucullus was son of John (1803) and Elizabeth (Walters) Merritt. He was brother of Rebecca (Merritt) Galbreath, Moses W., Ephraim, John Wesley (1843), Lucy (1846-1855) and Elizabeth J. (Liddie 1849),

Cullus was a half brother of Mary (Merritt) Presley, Nancy (Merritt) McConnaha/Worth and Louisa Merritt (1828) Their mother was Rebecca (Sellers) Merritt.

Cullus was first married to Emma Jane Lamb, daughter of William D. and Mary Elizabeth (Case) Lamb. He and Emma Jane were parents of Elijah D., Marshall E., and Minnie E. (Merritt) Walker.

After Emma Jane's death, Cullus married for the second time to Mahala Lamb, sister of Emma Jane.

They were married in Boone Co., Indiana. She died 3-30-1936 in Butte Co. California. Their children were an Infant Male born in Boone Co., Indiana, Rosa Viola, Everett, Eva Alice, Marion Leslie, Lawrence Raymond, Bethel, Ethel (twins) and Harry born 1901-1913.

Unable to locate Cullus' burial site. Obituary indicates Cullus (named as Lucas on his death certificate and in the obituary) was buried at Thomas Cemetery.
