BANKS-- Hattie Smith McFarland, 106, of Banks (Bradley County), died November 22, 1997.

Born October 8, 1891, at Lanark (Bradley County), the daughter of the late Asa Andrew Smith and Selecta Caroline Abernathy Smith.

She was a homemaker, a Methodist, and a member of the Extension Homemakers Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Auburn J. McFarland, who died in 1977. They were married January 19, 1908, at Banks. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ernest McFarland and Curtis McFarland; and a daughter, Jerine McFarland.

Survivors are two sons, A.J. McFarland Jr. of Banks and Roy Herbert McFarland of Jefferson, Texas; four daughters, Christine Munford of Banks, May Dean Sweatman of Camden, Bobbie Sue Whisenhunt of Fort Smith and Nelsie Bershen of Monroe; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Banks Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Wayman Mann, Bob Newton and Gary Martin officiating. Burial will be in Jerine McFarlandCemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home.
