Walter Eugene Wylie Sr. passed away on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. He was 82.

Born to Dekalb and Annie Pebble Crouse Wylie on Nov. 15, 1931, he was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He graduated from Carr Central High School before attending Hinds Community College and the University of Mississippi, and then going on to earn his engineering degree from Mississippi State University.

He was a veteran of the Korean War in the 412th Army Reserve unit. He was a member of Gideon’s International and very active at First Presbyterian Church. He was retired as an engineer at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and was also active in local youth sports.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Jean Wylie; his sister, Betty Ann Lum; and his son, John Dekalb Wylie, who passed away in 1995.

He is survived by a son, Gene Wylie Jr. (Sandra) of Columbia, S.C.; daughter, Rose Anne Wylie of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Bryan Eugene Wylie (Melodye) and Kathreen D. Benac (Brian); and four greatgrandchildren, Austin Stephen Wylie, Zachary Paul Wylie, Kameron Leigh Benac, and Riddick Graham Benac.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg is in charge of arrangements.
