AGED BEDFORD WOMAN KILLED

Mrs. Lucinda Jay, Aged 79 Years, Near Everett, Hit by Train

WAS GOING ON VISIT

Special to The Tribune.

Bedford, Aug. 31.--Mrs. Lucinda Jay, aged 79 years, of near Everett, was instantly killed about 9 o'clock yesterday morning at the Cliffs, two miles east of this place, when she was struck by the Huntingdon & Broad Top passenger train going east. The aged lady had been visiting her grand-daughters, Mrs. Cleveland Price, near Chalybeateville, and had walked to the Cliffs, a distance of several miles, in order to board the train to go to Everett on a visit to other children. The train whistled when she was on the opposite side of the river and she ran, attempting to cross the track, to the station side, in front of the approaching train. Her right leg and hip were broken, skull terribly crushed and body mangled. The body was brought to Bedford by railroad officials and Dr. S.H. Gump and taken to Pate's undertaking establishment, where it lay unidentified for some time. The remains were later taken to the home of her son near Clearville, where interment will be made. The deceased lady was Miss Lucinda Leasure, a native of Bean's Cove, this county. She is survived by one son, D.W. Jay, and five daughters, all residing in the southeastern section of this county.
