J. Arthur Bensen was a World War I pilot, former mayor of St. Cloud, and a Benton County attorney for 24 years. He died at his home on Riverside Drive N.E. at age 75.

He graduated from St. Cloud High School in 1910. He was graduated from University of Minnesota and St. Paul College of Law. He practiced law starting in 1915. He served 23 months in France, as a flier with the First Aero Squadron, U.S. Air Force, from 1917 to 1919. He was mayor from 1924 to 1928, and he served six successive terms as Benton County legal officer beginning in 1934. He once ran for Congress as the Republican candidate from the 6th District.
