Michael Hetrich was born January 22, 1803. In 1825, he married Catherine Acker, born September 24, 1807 a daughter of Christian and Catharine Acker. Michael Hetrich was born on the old Nicholas Hetrick homestead near Williamsburg. They settled on a farm five miles south of his father's where they lived and died. He possessed mechanical ability and in 1826 served on the building committee along with his father-in-law when the First Lutheran Church was built in Clover Creek, now Shellytown. Mr. and Mrs. Hetrich were ardent members of the Lutheran Church, and reared their children in that faith. The wife and mother died on August 13, 1849 and her husband on September 17, 1856.

Michael Hetrich had 14 children to his first wife: Mary, Samuel A., Christina, John A., Barbara, Michael A., Elizabeth, Catherine, Sarah, Christian, William, Leah, Jacob A. and Susan. Michael's second marriage was to Maria Whysong. They had 3 children: Rachel, Theobalt and Benjamin.
