Catherine, fondly known as Kitty and “Miss Kitty”, received her education in the local public schools of Beaufort County. She met and married her childhood sweetheart, the Late Reverend Joseph N Brown. They relocated to New York. Together they raised 27 children, 22 of whom were Foster children that they loved and cared for as their very own.
Sis Kitty began her Christian journey at Second Jordan Baptist Church in Burton, SC at an early age. While living in NY, she joined First Baptist Church of Queens, NY where she was an active member of many organizations in the church. She lived in NY for 35 years.
In 1987 Miss Kitty and her family moved back to Beaufort SC. She loved returning to her roots. You would often find her shrimping and sharing her catch with others. Miss Kitty was well known for her southern style cooking. Her food was tastefully done and prepared with a lot of love. She was also well known for her delicious seafood dishes and deserts that she so willingly shared with everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a kind and caring person and was a friend to many. She and her friends, Lottie Middleton and Dorothy Jenkins were known as the “Three Musketeers: Kitty, Lottie and Dottie." She was a mother/friend figure to so many including her dear friend, Jackie.
Miss Kitty reunited with her home church, Second Jordan Baptist Church. She was a willing worker and was actively a part of the Missionary Society, Pastor's Aide, Women's Auxiliary, Minister's Wives of Old Ashley Association and in any other way she was needed in the church. When Sis Kitty walked into church on Sunday morning she entered with praise and a great big smile wearing her fancy suits and hats. She loved The Lord and didn't mind being a witness for HIM. She served faithfully until the end.
Kitty loved, nurtured and cared for many children throughout the Beaufort Community.
She had a special deep bond and love for her daughter Adola. They were mother, daughter, granddaughter and best friends that traveled and shared so much together. Kitty always talked about how God blessed her with such a caring, loving daughter as Adola.
