Obituary for A. Donald Evans
A. Donald Evans, 82, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 12, 2010, at The Oaks Assisted Living after a three-year battle with lung cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Clintwood, VA, and resided in Kingsport most of his life.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force as a Control Tower Operator. He graduated from Milligan College with a degree in chemistry. He retired from Holston Defense after 39 years as a Superintendent of Explosives.

Don was a member of First Broad Street Methodist Church and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class. He was active with the Furniture Ministry and delivered Meals on Wheels for 10 years.

Don was a member of the Kingsport Rotary Club, the Rod and Gun Club, the VFW, Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 F & AM York Rite, and the Jericho Shriners.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 34 years, Hazle Cox Evans, and his parents, Albert D. and Elizabeth Neel Evans.

Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Thelma Kern Evans, Kingsport; one daughter, Diana Evans Miller and husband, J.R.; one granddaughter, Brittany Miller;' one grandson, Nick Miller, all of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Hyatt, of Kingsport; two stepdaughters, Vicki Patton and husband, Kenny, and Teresa Aesque and husband, Paul;
Four step-grandchildren, and six step-greatgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. A Celebration of Don's Life will be conducted at 8:00, with Rev. Jack Weikel officiating.

Graveside services will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Nave, Ross Kern, Bill Allen, Richard Long, Stacy Cox, and Don Lowery.

The family wants to thank all the staff and caregivers at the Oaks and Caris Hospice for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Furniture Ministry of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1346, Kingsport, TN 37662.
