I remember when my husband and I first married, it fell to me to make the biscuits at a gathering. Uncle Short asked who made them. When I told him I did, he said "throw one out to the dogs, if they eat it, I will!" I guess that was his way of asking if I could cook! Either way, the dog didn't get a biscuit...but I don't think he ate one either!! He did finally eat my cooking as the years went by though. Who can explain curious bachelors?
