Luke farmed all his life, and drove a school bus for many years. His form of "cuss" words were "dad gum the dad gum". Still able to walk at least 10 miles without any effort at age 95. He loved to fish, and sit and rock on his front porch. Luke leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Cora, and three children, Barbara, Jimmy, and Randall. Eight grandchildren, Ricky, Tanya, Scotty, Jason, Kyle, Michelle, Brian, and Brandy. And many great-grandchildren. When Luke was born Wheeler County had not been separated from Montgomery County yet.

Luke

He loved everyone,
Especially his kin,
We thought so much of him,
I don't know where to begin.

He was faithful and true,
Stubborn, but not mean.
Loved to fish and visit,
Could walk farther than any teen.

He loved family around him,
Strangers as well,
He loved big dinners on Sunday,
All Holidays as well.

He was well liked by many,
One of the oldest in our town,
Everyone knew Papa Tootle,
For many miles around.

I also loved him,
He was like a father to me,
I loved to hear him speak of,
His long life history.

Although life was hard,
Sometimes throughout his years,
His strong faith in God,
Calmed all his fears.

It's been a while since he left us,
But it's still hard to grasp,
It seems like we talked yesterday,
Has so much time really past?

Luke was 95 at his passing,
A strong, happy man,
We think of him often,
In God's Promised Land.
