He was born June 17, 1931, in Truro Township, the son of Robert C and Lillian G. (Clark) Stewart.
He married Therese H. Meier on Nov. 27,1954, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2004.
He is survived by three children, Lori S. Stewart, Karen K. (and Mike) Martin and Kurt J. (and Ketra) Stewart, all of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Tevyn Stewart, Shelby Martin, Kholby Martin, Kylie Stewart, and Kyce Stewart; and a brother, Paul C (and Dorothy) Stewart of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anneliese Stewart, who was stillborn; and five siblings, twins brothers who also had a birthday of June 17, Edward and Everett, Robert Gene, Mary Alderson and Margaret Hendricks.
David was a farmer in Knox County and also a coal miner with Midland Coal Company. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950.
David served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2257, AMVETS, and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Private family graveside service will be Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers per David's request, memorials may be made to the Defenders of Freedom Veteran's Home. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements.
