Wayne Preston, 90, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, in Abilene.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mathew St. John officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home.
Born February 25, 1924 in Jones County, Wayne was a son of the late O. H. and Dora (Broom) Preston.
He graduated from Avoca High School and Hardin Simmons University, he then married Ruby Wynell Shelton on August 24th, 1946 in Avoca, Tx.
Wayne was an U. S. Marine Corps veteran of WW II. He was ACO 1st Marine, 1st Marine Division, South Pacific, invasion of Okinawa and 6 months duty following.
Wayne was a coach for many years. He coached in Paint Creek, Abernathy, Comanche and Snyder.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he taught a Sunday school class for many years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby and a granddaughter (Staci Preston), one sister and four brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Ron Preston (and wife, Judy) of Ruidoso, NM, Dub Preston (and wife, Pat) and Mark Preston (and wife, Deborah), all of Abilene; and five grandchildren, Arron Preston (and wife, Elizabeth), Melissa McMullen, Matt Preston (and wife, Reagan), Stormy Swindell and James Swindell.
Family visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Adams-Graham Funeral Home in Anson.
