Jacob "Jake" Love was born in 1812 in Sevier County, Tennessee to Isaac J. Love (1782 - 1866) and Phoebe (Connelly) Love (1793 - 1867).

Jacob moved with his family to Phelps County in 1832. Prior to the Civil War, he had a store North Spring Creek that sold liquor.

At the age of 28, Jacob served as a private in B Company, of the Eighth Regiment of Infantry, United States Army under General Atkinson from July 8, 1840 to October 25, 1840, when he was discharged due to illness.

Jacob married Eliza Jane (Miller) Love in 1843. The couple had at least three children: Jane Love (~1843 - ????); Diletha Love (~1844 - ~1855); and Martha Ann Love (~1846 - ????). Jake also had at least one child, named Daniel Love (1841-1928), with an unknown slave (~1824 - ????).

The same year Jacob was married, he began acquiring land via land grants and by the end of 1860, he staked claim to more than 671 acres in Pulaski, Phelps, Maries County, Missouri. In fact, according to the 1860 US Census, Jake had a net-worth of $6,541.00.

Jacob died in about 1863 on a walk from a neighbors house back to his own. His dog was found along side his body. His final resting place is unknown.
