Lorna Milner Schakel was born on February 18, 1920, to Clyde and Mella Rankin Milner in Knoxville, Iowa.

Lorna received her early education in the Knoxville school system and graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1938. On August 9, 1952, Lorna was united in marriage with Max Schakel in Chariton, Iowa.

Lorna worked for many years as a waitress at various restaurants in the Pella area. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served a term as District President.

She liked to play golf, playing cards with her friends, was a dedicated member of a bowling team, and she loved to tell a joke.

She died on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the Griffin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville at the age of eighty-nine.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two step-children: Doug Schakel of Olathe, Kansas, and Meredith Roland of Glendale, Arizona; three grandchildren: Matt Schakel, Kristin Gibbar, and Patric Roland; five great-grandchildren: Taj, Teryn, Darion Schakel and Davis and Emma Gibbar.

Lorna was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Max Schakel; her brother, Keith Milner; and her sister, Maxine Naeve.
