OBITUARY: CHARLES AUGUST WOERNLEY--Man Dead in Warsaw Leaves Thirty-one Grandchildren. Warsaw, May 10--Charles August Woernley died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ella Schleidt, in Perry avenue, Tuesday afternoon at 6 o'clock. He had been ill for the past two years. He was born December 26 [28?], 1837, in Stuttgart, Kingdom of Wurtemberg, Germany. In 18?? [10 Aug 1868 by passenger list records] he came to this country with his wife.
Several years after his arrival here his wife died and in 1873 he married Mrs. Catharine Rahn Herr Necker of Utica, N.Y., besides whom he leaves his wife and ten children, August Woernley, of Elmira; Mrs. Carrie Cook, Warsaw; Miss Anna Woernley, of Hornell; William Woernley, of Rochester; Mrs. Bertha Cole, of Hornell; Mrs. Edith Herb, of Chicago, Ill.; Fred Woernley and Louis Woernley, of Buffalo; and one son by his first wife, Alfred Woernley, of Longmont, Col., and two stepsons, Frank Herr Necker, of Fon Du Lac, Wis., and George Herr Necker, of Hornell. Besides the children there are thirty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchild on his wife's side.
At one time he was a prominent businessman of Hornell, and the funeral will be held in Hornell Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Heftahorn's [unclear] undertaking parlor. H. Leslie Shoup and Elder J. W. Raymond will officiate. A short prayer service will be held in the home in Perry avenue at 8 o'clock, led by the Rev. W. H. Smith, rector of the M. E. Church.
