Obituary-Michael Luther Coatney

Michael Luther Coatney was born in Decatur county, Ind. Dec. 13, 1835. When he was yet a boy he went to the state of Illinois, and from there he moved to the state of Colorado. After spending sixteen years in various parts of Colorado he went to Iowa, which place he made his permanent home.
He was married to Julia F. Jackson Jan. 5, 1879. To this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters, five of which survive him, Jessie [sic-Jesse] Coatney of Beverly, Kansas, Bessie and Maude Coatney of Lincoln, Kansas, Henry Coatney of Darbyville, Iowa, and Roy Coatney of Numa Iowa. His wife and one son preceded him to the great beyond fourteen years ago.
In the spring of 1908 he went to Kansas. About nine weeks ago he took sick with a complication of diseases, during which time he was a patient sufferer. He died at the home of his son, Jesse Coatney on Jan. 20, 1911, aged 75 years, 1 month, 6 days. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. Kuhn, who spoke comforting words to the bereaved ones, after which the deceased was taken to the train at Beverly Kansas and was accompanied by his son Jesse to Centerville, Iowa for burial by the side of his wife which was his greatest desire. Short services were conducted at the church at Darbyville by Geo. W. Noland, after which the body was interred in the Sand Hill Cemetery.
