Clay Morris, 78, Boonville, died in Ashley Manor Wednesday night (Dec. 4, 1974) following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the William Wood Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mel Lantz will officiate, with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The VFW will hold graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. Friday until time of service. Mr. Morris was born in Pisgah, April 14, 1896, the son of J.O. and Mary Cole Morris. He married the former Lucille Beaman June 29, 1939 in Odessa. She died Oct. 13, 1957. Mr. Morris had been an official in both city and county government, had owned and operated Charlie's Restaurant in Boonville, and, in recent years, had been employed with Hall and Riley until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion, and VFW. Surviving are a son, Steven Morris of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Sue) McPherson of Kansas City; two brothers, L.B. Morris of Prairie Home, and W.S. Morris of Blackwater; and four grandchildren.-from contributor William Scoggin
