Ashton Monroe Adams
VETERAN | WORLD WAR II
1922 - 2014

Early Life: Monroe was born June 3, 1922, in Oakley, Idaho, to John Frederick and Augusta Geneva Elison Adams. At age eight, his family moved to Burley, where he lived for 78 glorious years.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Monroe met Jeanne Marie Ratelle in Long Beach, California, in March of 1942 and on December 31, 1942, they were married in Burley, Idaho, at his parents' home and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 6, 1952. Monroe served in World War II as part of the 723rd Railway Operating Battalion in France when he was 20 years old. He will be remembered by all as enjoying a good joke, playing games, entertaining and sharing his and others' talents. He was loving, giving and committed to making life better for others through his hard work, kind words and relevant advice. Jeanne was always by his side supporting and participating in their life together. They created great memories on the farm for grandchildren, nieces and nephews by riding horses and tractors and learning to work. As a committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as bishop of the Pella Ward for two years, and as first counselor in the Oakley Stake presidency for eleven years. Monroe and Jeanne served missions to Louisville, Kentucky, and the Family History Library. His testimony and joy in the gospel is a legacy for his family and friends. His love was Scouting and he was honored with the Silver Beaver award in 1980. Farming was in his blood from birth and he always had a beautiful garden, but he proved to be a great salesman in insurance and then in real estate working with June Carey and forming Carey & Adams Real Estate. They worked successfully together for twenty-three years. In 2000, Monroe and Jeanne sold the home where they had raised eight children, and had passed on their great work ethic, and built a home in Alpine, Utah, to the delight of many grandchildren. One of Monroe's greatest joys and treasures were his friends. He was loyal, giving and fulfilled in these relationships which he nourished to the end. Some of these were gained through the Snake River Flats and Barbershop Quartet. Loving and loved, Ashton Monroe Adams, left this life to join his sweetheart on July 28, 2014. His heart's desire of being in his home surround by loved ones was fulfilled. He was 92.
