William J. von Ruden, 85, Thompson, ND formerly of Reynolds, ND passed away holding his wife's hand on Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND.
William John von Ruden was born on March 30, 1929 the son of Hubert and Margaret (Scholand) von Ruden on the family farmstead west of Reynolds, ND where he lived for the next 80 years. He married Alma Rose Sherman on June 10, 1963 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fingal, ND. Together they raised their two children on the family farm. He farmed the land and raised cattle for the majority of his life. William enjoyed crafting items out of steel which included a backhoe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years of marriage, Alma; daughter, Ursula (Kent) Nelson, Thompson, ND and son, Roman (Stacy), Reynolds, ND; grandchildren, Anthony (Jordon) von Ruden, Christian von Ruden, Evan Nelson and Jacinda Nelson; sisters, Barbara Teawalt, St. Paul, MN and Carol Stolberg, Hazen, ND; brothers, David, Grand Forks, ND and Ralph (Janet), Menoken, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth; 1 sister-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, ND.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the church. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy at the church on Tuesday.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
