Leander was in the same unit, Co G, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, *2nd BN, 101st Airborne Division, as Sgt. John William Whetzel. They were transferred to L-325th GIR, 3rd BN, 82nd Airborne Division, for the Normandy Invasion. Sgt. Whetzel was wounded by machine gun fire and died on July 7, 1944. I also posted a photo that I found in the National Archives, of his monument at the Netherlands American Cemetery, located at Margraten, Limburg, Netherlands. You may also want to note that he was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals.

*I saw on a memorial that Co G was in the 3rd BN and it was not.
