Musician. A versatile drummer, he made an impression on the jazz, funk and rhythm and blues genres. He began playing the drums at the age of eight and by his mid-teens, he was performing in area jazz bands. He made a name for himself as a sessions musician when he provided the drums on Fats Domino's classic hit "Blueberry Hill" (1956). By the early 1960s, he collaborated with soul singers Sam Cooke and Jerry Butler. He may be best remembered for his association with jazz's Leo Donaldson which resulted in several recorded projects. He performed on Broadway as the percussionist for "Hair" which ran from 1968 until 1972. In 1971 he recorded his first album "Black Rhythm Revolution," and over the next two decades he yielded a dozen records, including "Peace and Rhythm" (1971) and "Power of Soul" (1974).
