Elizabeth ‘Honey' O. Mejia, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at her home.

Honey was born December 15, 1937 to Clarence and Ecil (Bradford) Ray in St. Joseph where she lived her entire life. She attended Benton High School and later Cosmetology School. She worked as a Beautician, owned Higdon's Floral and worked for K-Mart, retiring in 1998. On April 13, 1990, she married Rodolfo ‘Rudy' Mejia in St. Joseph. Honey was a charter member at Community Christian Church where she actively served various positions. Honey enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, quilting, and Saturday night dancing with Rudy in the previous years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; two children, Forest ‘Forey' Higdon and Shella Wineinger and grandson Thomas ‘Tommy' Higdon.

Survivors include her husband Rudy, of the home; son Galen Higdon Jr. and wife Lou Anne; two sisters, Rowena Atkins and Ida Massey, all of St. Joseph; step children Terresa (Jose) Rodriguez of Kansas City and Joey Mejia of St. Joseph; son-in-law, Bill Wineinger of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Monica Ford, Andrea Higdon, Emily (Gary) Cunningham, Bill (Lacy) Wineinger and Chad (Christina) Higdon; five step-grandchildren, Ashlee (Mark) Hendrix, Christian Mejia, Elijah Mejia, Carolina Rodriguez and Eliane Rodriguez; ten great-grandchildren, Joe, Hailee, Kiersten, Michael, Addie, McKinley, Hudson, Madison, McKenna and Carter; one aunt; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Community Christian Church. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Brian Williams officiating.
