The first-born child of George Petefish and Polly Aughe. Jesse first married Minerva Jane Pence (1822-Sept. 3, 1861), the daughter of John Pence of Rockingham Co. VA. Minerva and Jesse lived in Cass Co., Illinois. They had two known children, Albert (1843-1925), and W., who was born about 1844 and apparently died prior to the 1850 census.
About 1856 Jesse and Minerva moved to Davis Co., Iowa. Minerva having passed away in 1861, Jesse later married Mrs. Serelda E. Sprinkle, of Troy, Iowa. Jesse and Serelda had four children who died in infancy and are buried at Stiles. Their known surviving child was George William Petefish (1863-1935). Note that Serelda is listed in the 1900 census at nearby Grove Iowa as having had seven children, only one of which was still living. Two may have been children of her first husband.
