Opal Winnie Jackson Brooks, 95, entered into eternal peace on Saturday February 21, 2015 at Park Place Manor in the palliative care of Gentiva Hospice.
Opal was born in Cedar Valley, TX on January 13, 1920 to Leo and Winnie Curb Jackson. She was the second of five children, and attended Cedar Valley Schools.
Opal married Lonnie Brooks on January 16, 1941 in Belton, Texas. They were ranchers and lifelong residents of Salado, where they raised their two sons Edward and Bennie. As a wife and homemaker, Opal was always involved in the community and lovingly volunteered her time as Room Mom in Salado Schools. She worked at the Stagecoach Inn for 25 years and then in the Salado and Belton School Cafeterias.
Lonnie and Opal were founding members of Victory Baptist Church of Salado.
Loving known as “Aunt Opal” to many, was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and devout servant of our Lord Jesus Christ with whom she is at rest.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Lonnie of 54 years, her devoted son Edward Brooks, her parents and two brothers Delmer and Ernest Jackson.
Opal is survived by her sister Minerva Herrington of Georgetown, and brother Wayne Jackson and wife Nell of Belton, her son Bennie Brooks and wife Donna of Round Rock, her daughter-in-law Sissy Brooks of Salado, six grandchildren: Marie Fojtasek of Spring, Paul Brooks of Temple, Taylor Spratt of Birmingham, AL, Grant Brooks of Georgetown, Blair Brooks of Waco, and Peyton Roth of Round Rock, five great-grandchildren Dylan and Jared Fojtasek, Oliver Spratt, Benjamin and Abram Brooks, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
Services will be held 1pm on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Burial to follow in Salado Cemetery.
