Scott Francis Sanders
May 8, 1960 – Dec. 14, 2013

Scott Francis "Pappy" Sanders, 53, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Saturday with his beloved daughter, Danyelle Nichole Dean.

He was born in Altoona, son of Nancy (Reed) Sanders Bollman and the late Alfred Sanders. He married Karen G. Burns on Dec. 3, 1983, in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Angela Hughes and husband, Adam, of Altoona and their daughter, Aryn; a son-in-law, Ronald J. Dean of Altoona and his daughter, Gabbreella; a son, Christopher and wife, Autumn, of East Freedom and their children, Colton and Evan; his mother of Cresson; his stepmother, Darlene Anderson of Vintondale; his mother-in-law, Joyce Burns of Altoona; two brothers: Bryan and wife, April, of Leroy, Kan., and Michael and wife, Christine, of Gallitzin; his lifelong coffee friend, Pam Swope; and his dog, Oreo.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers: Martha Reed and Pauline Counsel; his father-in-law, Wilbur Burns; and a grandson, Cayson Jonathan Dean.

Scott was a 1982 graduate of Altoona Area High School and retired as a custodian from the Altoona Area School District in 2000. He was a member of Simpson-Temple United Parish, where he was president of the church council.

Scott was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and was a member of the Duncansville VFW. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and doing crossword puzzles.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. Denise Arpino officiating. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Simpson-Temple United Parish, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona, the Rev. Denise Arpino officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gabbreella Dean Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, Giant Eagle location, 181 Sophira Lane, Altoona, PA 16602.
