Son of James Shipley Sr and Emily (nee?). Per 1870 Census, Boonville, Cooper, Missouri, abt 6 yr of age. Siblings: Rebecca, Thomas, Mollie and Reuben Shipley. Residence Post Office: Boonville.

His father, James Shipley, served under Co. E 62nd U.S.C.T. (United States Colored Troops) Military records indicate he was mustered in 11/29/1863 in Boonville, and mustered out in 1866. He was a Corporal and his commanding officer was Woodward.

Missouri, Marriage Records, date of Jan 26 1887, marriage to Anna "Annie" Davis, 1873–1903. Copy of signatures filed in Cooper County, Missouri., by Minister Louis Sheppard & Charles Houx.
Their children are:
Leona Irene Shipley (Dickens) 1892–1917 and Katharine Z. Shipley (Hale) 1898–1927, both linked.

The 1900 Federal Census suggested that Thomas was born July 1866, was 33yrs. of age and rented a home in in Richwoods, Peoria, Illinois. He was employed as a day laborer.

His wife Annie, died in 1903, and per 1910 Census he was a widower, and worked as a teamster in the Waste Collection Industry. He owned his home in Peoria at 928 MacQueen Ave, Ward 2. Both daughters were married and lived outside of the home. According to Google map, his homestead today, is now a paved road.
His 1920 Federal Census, showed that he had a live in housekeeper, Mabel Brown at his home in Peoria, and 1939 City Directory, lived at the same residence.

Sometime between late 1939-1940 he was sent to Peoria State Hospital, listed as an resident on 1940 Federal Census. His Illinois Death Index provides date of death in Limestone, Peoria, Illinois & year of birth as 1863. This record also verified his parents as James & Emily, and was buried at the Peoria State Hospital Cemetery, aka Bartonville State Asylum Cemetery. Many thanks to M. Curry, 47988502, for providing a photo of his gravestone and transfer of his memorial.
