Charles Secratus "Crate" Wilson was the son of Silas and Nancy Jane Atteberry Wilson. He was married first to Obedience J. Anderson Tucker, the widow of Zackery Tucker, on Oct. 12, 1876 in Wayne Co., IL. They had seven children: Anna Belle Wilson Files, Biddy Olive Wilson Gardner, Dora May Wilson Friend, Perry Everett Wilson, Silas Austin Wilson, William Walter Wilson, and Charles Hershel Wilson. He also raised his wife's son from her first marriage, Francis Henry Tucker.

After Obedience Jane died, he married Kansas Singleterry Freeborn the widow of Lloyd Freeman on Jan. 29, 1913 in Wayne Co., IL.

Four of his children are buried at Barnhill: B. Olive Gardner, Dora Friend, Perry, & Charles H
