Son of Thomas Hale and Thomasine Dowsett

He married Sarah Ilsley, daughter of William and Barbara Ilsley. She was born in Newbury on Aug 8, 1655 and died in Woodbridge, NJ on Jan 16, 1680-1.

They removed to settle Woodbridge, NJ, named for the Rev John Woodbridge of Newbury around 1670. He was prominent there, owner of quite a bit of land and became a Judge.

They had two daughters, Sarah born 1675 and probably died young and Mary born 1678, both born in Woodbridge, though Sarah was baptized in Newbury. Mary married Mr. Higgins (n other information) and second Moses Rolph on June 5, 1702 in Woodbridge. It is possible he was a cousin of hers, the son of John Rolfe and grandson of Benjamin and Apphia (Hale) Rolfe. Mary and Moses had 11 children and Moses was a prominent citizen, but there is no record of their deaths in Woodbridge.

Sources indicate he died of small pox at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 3 days. The DOB is based on this.

Extensive information on him and his family is found in the Genealogy of descendants of Thomas Hale of Watton, England, and of Newbury, Mass. by Robert Stafford Hale starting on Page 29.

Information also found in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register,: Volume 31 1877, Volume 31, pg 86-87.

Thomas Hale : the glover of Newbury, Mass. (1635) and his descendants by Robert S Hale, 1877.

Note: Not sure if he is buried here (more likely in Woodbridge, NJ) but he is memorialized on the back of their stone in this cemetery. I cannot find record of his or his wife's burial in Woodbridge.
