Leta "Lorene" Taylor, 70, of LaPlata, Missouri, passed away Thursday February 9, 2006 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The daughter of Everett Dennis and Edith (Watson) Houghton, she was born April 28, 1935 in Adair County, Missouri. On May 19, 1955 in Kirksville, Missouri, Lorene was united in marriage to Cecil H. Taylor.
Lorene is survived by her husband, Cecil H. Taylor of the home; one son, Mark Taylor of LaPlata, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and John Rehm of LaPlata, MO and Jeanine and Lloyd Thornburg of Packwood, IA and four grandchildren, Rachel, Wesley and Leah Rehm of LaPlata, MO and Jeremy Thornburg of Packwood, IA; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Everett "D" Houghton.
Lorene graduated from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1953. She lived most of her life in Adair and Macon counties. She and Cecil moved to rural LaPlata in 1968 and in 1970 moved to the City of LaPlata to make their home. For eleven years, Lorene was employed as a cook for the LaPlata public schools. She was a very accomplished seamstress and was last employed thirteen years for Jim Wagner at Mr. Jim;s doing alterations. After the business closes, Lorene continued doing alterations out of her home for a number of years.
At one time, orene was a clothing leader with 4-H and was a life-long member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Kirksville where she was active with the United Methodist Women.
Public visitation will be held Sunday February 12, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday February 13, 2006 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with the Reverend David Hartsfield officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Jason Lloyd, Jim Wagner, Dale Watson, Raymond Magruder, Melvin Fortney and Steve Albertson. Honorary bearers will be Frank Foster, Marion Rehm, Kenneth Lovell and Bob Stone.
